THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE EUROPE CAPE 2 CAPE MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION
Everything below comes from the tour itself: our 42-day expedition from Gibraltar to the North Cape of Norway, the day-by-day itinerary further up this page, and the practical details of bikes, group size, pricing and payment exactly as we run them. If you are weighing up a full-length crossing of Europe as your next motorcycle adventure — one continuous ride from the continent's southern tip to its Arctic fringe — this is the long answer: how the riding feels, what you will see between Punta de Tarifa and Nordkapp, and what it takes to join.
WHY RIDE RIDE EUROPE CAPE 2 CAPE BY MOTORCYCLE?
Most motorcycle tours show you one country. The Europe Cape 2 Cape Motorcycle Expedition strings together twelve — Gibraltar, Spain, Andorra, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway — in a single south-to-north line across the entire continent. The journey begins beneath the Rock of Gibraltar, a limestone promontory at Europe's southern tip with sweeping views across the Strait and centuries of military history etched into its fortifications, and ends at Nordkapp, the northernmost road-accessible point in Europe, under the midnight sun.
In between, the route covers approximately 8,500 km of mostly paved roads through some of the most dramatic landscapes Europe has to offer: sun-bleached Andalusian plains, Mediterranean coastlines, the jagged peaks of the Alps, and the Arctic tundra beyond the Arctic Circle. The cultural icons come thick and fast — the Alhambra palace in Granada, the medieval walled city of Carcassonne, Charles Bridge in Prague, Nyhavn in Copenhagen — alongside hidden gems tucked into mountain passes and fjord-side villages. Periodic ferry crossings, including the overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo and the scenic Lysefjord ferry, add maritime flavor and a chance to rest the throttle.
The scale is what sets this expedition apart in our catalog: 42 days door to door, 41 nights of accommodation, and a route that climbs from sea level at Tarifa to the 48 hairpins of Italy's Stelvio Pass before rolling across the Arctic Circle into the true North. It is a motorcycle journey built to be measured in capes, not kilometers.
HOW HARD IS THE RIDING? 5% OFF-ROAD, 75% COMFORT, 100% FUN
We publish a terrain profile for every tour so you can match the route to your skills before you book. The Europe Cape 2 Cape rates 5% off-road, 75% comfort and 100% fun — in plain words, this is a road-focused expedition on around 95% pavement, where the challenge comes from distance, weather windows and high-altitude passes rather than from dirt. If you are a confident street rider with the stamina for consecutive riding days, this route is within reach; tours like Namibia are the ones we reserve for experienced dirt riders, not this one.
Expect smooth, twisty backroads and seasonal mountain passes. The riding character changes as the latitude does: twisty Andalusian hills out of Gibraltar, thrilling Pyrenean climbs on the 350 km day from Tarragona to Andorra la Vella, Port de Cabús — one of the highest paved passes into France — the alpine run from Chamonix through the Alps into Italy, and Stelvio Pass itself, one of Europe's greatest motorcycling roads, on the leg from Lake Como to Bolzano. Further north the days stretch out, like the 440 km run from Berlin to Copenhagen, before Norway serves up fjords, mountain rivers and arctic coastal riding on the way to the North Cape.
The expedition is fully supported the entire way: a professional multilingual tour leader rides with the group, a local guide and support vehicle travel alongside, and fuel, ferries, bridges and road tolls are all covered. Rest days are built into the published itinerary at Valencia, Carcassonne, Chamonix, Salzburg, Trondheim and Narvik, so the long riding days are balanced with real recovery time in places worth exploring. That is the 75% comfort score doing its job on a route this long.
THE ROUTE: GIBRALTAR TO NORDKAPP, STAGE BY STAGE
The full day-by-day itinerary with photos is published further up this page; the stages below follow the days as they appear there, from the Gibraltar start through the ride to Nordkapp and Alta in Arctic Norway.
Andalusia and the Spanish interior. After motorcycle handover, rider briefing and a welcome dinner in Gibraltar, day 2 visits Punta de Tarifa — the southernmost point in Europe — on a 240 km ride through twisty Andalusian hills to Ronda. From there the route runs through Andalusian countryside to Granada, with an optional Alhambra visit, then crosses La Mancha's plains through Don Quixote country and drops via Albacete to the Mediterranean coast near Valencia, where a rest day offers the beach or the City of Arts and Sciences.
The Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenees. A coastal ride through picturesque towns leads to Tarragona and its Roman amphitheatre, before the 350 km climb into the Pyrenees to Andorra la Vella. Day 9 rides Port de Cabús into France with alpine vistas, followed by a short hop to the UNESCO-listed medieval walled city of Carcassonne and a rest day walking its ramparts.
Provence and the Alps. The route continues through wine country to the Roman treasures of Nîmes, crosses Provence to Grenoble, and arrives at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix, where the rest day offers an optional glacier hike or the Aiguille du Midi cable car. Then comes the alpine heart of the expedition: 320 km through the Alps to a lakeside evening on Lake Como, the Stelvio Pass day to Bolzano, and Tyrol's lush valleys into Salzburg, Mozart's hometown.
Central Europe and Scandinavia. From Salzburg the ride cruises through Bohemian countryside to Prague, runs fast to Berlin, and takes an early ferry toward an afternoon of sightseeing in Copenhagen. An overnight ferry carries the group from Copenhagen to Oslo, trading asphalt for sea air.
Norway to the North Cape. The Norwegian chapters build steadily: lakes and forests to Lillehammer, the Gudbrandsdalen Valley to Dombås, and the historic Viking port city of Trondheim, with a rest day for the cathedral, harbor and wooden old town. Then the long scenic days begin — 390 km through fjords and mountain rivers to Mosjøen, the Arctic Circle crossing on the way to Røkland, arctic coastal riding into Narvik, and remote northern fjords, wildlife sightings and tundra terrain on the 295 km leg to Alta. The crescendo is the ride across the tundra plains to Honningsvåg and on to Nordkapp itself — the northernmost point in Europe you can reach by road.
WHAT ARE THE CULTURE & STOPS ALONG THE CAPE 2 CAPE MOTORCYCLE ROUTE?
An expedition across twelve countries rewards riders who get off the bike, and the itinerary builds that in. These are the cultural anchors of the tour, south to north:
- The Rock of Gibraltar. The starting cape — sweeping views across the Strait from Europe's southern tip.
- The Alhambra, Granada. A Moorish palace known for its stunning architecture, beautiful views and Spain's Islamic heritage.
- La Mancha windmills. Don Quixote country, crossed on the plains between Granada and Valdepeñas.
- Valencia. A rest day between the beach and the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences.
- Tarragona. A Roman amphitheatre on the Mediterranean coast.
- Carcassonne. A UNESCO-listed medieval walled city, with a rest day for the ramparts, local cuisine and wine.
- Stelvio Pass and Lake Como. Italy's 48-hairpin alpine icon, paired with lakeside views in Como.
- Salzburg and Prague. Mozart's hometown and the Bohemian capital with Charles Bridge.
- Copenhagen and the Oslo ferry. Nyhavn's harborfront, then an overnight ferry to Norway.
- Trondheim and Narvik. A Viking port city's cathedral and wooden old town, and WWII history among fjord views.
- The Arctic Circle and Nordkapp. The crossing into the true North, and the midnight-sun finale at the northernmost road-accessible point in Europe.
Group activities and entry fees for the stops we visit together are included in the tour price, so there is no ticket-counter arithmetic along the way.
