The first is the BR-319, the road our riders know as the Ghost Highway: due to massive rainfall in the rainy season it is unrideable for several months every year, which is exactly why so few motorcyclists have ever ridden it. The second is the Trans Amazonian Highway, the famous transcontinental road that continues to be under construction decade after decade. Our 11-day route strings both of them together with a third leg no road can offer: a 30-hour boat journey down the Amazon River itself, from Manaus to Santarém, living the traditional life along the river's banks from the deck.

The tour highlights read like a naturalist's wish list as much as a rider's: the Ghost Highway, the Amazon River, the Amazon jungle, the Trans Amazonian Highway, the river boat, pink dolphins and bird watching. It is a complete immersion into the rich culture and stunning nature of the Amazon: you will have the chance to see pink dolphins, every bird on the planet, and meet the original people of Brazil, the indigenous Amazon tribes whose communities the route passes through.

The shape of the ride matters too. We start and finish in Porto Velho, the capital of the state of Rondônia, so the tour is a true loop: north through the rainforest to Manaus, the "Heart of the Amazon", east along the great river by boat to Santarém, then south and west on the Trans Amazonian back to where we began. Seven riding days, two boat days, one arrival day and one departure day — and in between, remote villages, river crossings, untouched wilderness and the kind of distances that make the Amazon feel as big as it really is.

The daily legs tell you what to expect. Day two runs 297 km from Porto Velho to Vila Realidade and takes around seven hours — your first taste of the lush landscapes of the rainforest, with stops at scenic viewpoints and local villages along the way. Day three is the big one: 360 km from Vila Realidade to Igapó Açu in roughly ten hours, deep into the untouched wilderness of the Amazon basin. When 360 km takes ten hours, the road is doing the talking — this is the Ghost Highway earning its name. Day four eases to 280 km and six hours into Manaus, crossing stunning river landscapes and dense forested regions on the way.

After the boat leg, the second half rides the Trans Amazonian: 380 km from Santarém to Itaituba in six hours, 393 km from Itaituba to Jacareacanga in eight, a long 489 km push from Jacareacanga to Matupi in five, and a final 480 km, eight-hour run from Matupi back to Porto Velho. Add it up and you are looking at just under 2,700 km of riding across seven days, through some of the most remote regions the Amazon has to offer — pristine rainforest around Jacareacanga, rural communities that live from the river, and long stretches where the sights and sounds of the jungle are the only company.

You do not do any of it alone. A professional multilingual tour leader rides with the group, a local guide and support vehicle travel with us the entire way, and fuel and road tolls are covered. • Porto Velho (days 1 and 10–11). The capital of Rondônia opens and closes the loop. Our team greets you at the airport on arrival day and transfers you to your hotel, with time to rest before the journey begins.
• Vila Realidade (day 2). A charming town 297 km up the road, reached through the rainforest with stops at viewpoints and local villages to interact with the friendly locals — a relaxing first evening surrounded by the tranquility of the Amazon.
• Igapó Açu (day 3). The reward at the end of the longest riding day: lodgings in the middle of the wilderness and a traditional Amazonian dinner.
• Manaus (day 4). The bustling "Heart of the Amazon" delivers the tour's densest cultural stop — the iconic Amazon Theatre, the Rio Negro Palace, and local cuisine heavily influenced by the Amazon's bounty.
• The Amazon River (days 5–6). Thirty hours by boat from Manaus to Santarém, fully immersed in the river's atmosphere and the rhythm of life along its banks, with comfortable facilities on board.
• Santarém (days 6–7). Where the Amazon and Tapajós Rivers meet, renowned for the "Meeting of the Waters" — the two rivers' distinct colors flow side by side without mixing for several kilometers. Leisure time to unwind and explore the city before the Trans Amazonian leg begins.
• Itaituba and Jacareacanga (days 7–8). Picturesque Amazonian landscapes, glimpses of rural communities that rely on the river for their livelihoods, then a small town surrounded by pristine rainforest, wildlife spotting on the way in, and an evening exploring the local culture with a warm Amazonian welcome.
• Matupi (day 9). An enchanting village deep in the rainforest, with time to explore the surroundings and learn about the traditions and customs of the indigenous communities living here.

Group activities and entry fees along the route are included in the tour price, so there is no ticket-counter arithmetic along the way. Day eleven is a simple goodbye: breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport, and a flight home filled with tales from the heart of Brazil's most extraordinary natural wonder.

The motorcycles. The base bike is the Honda XRE300, included in the tour price — a light dual-sport that makes sense on a route that is half dirt. If you prefer more displacement, the BMW F900GS upgrade is available for +$999. All bikes are professionally maintained, and both a motorcycle damage and theft liability reduction insurance and the mandatory third-party insurance are already included. A refundable security deposit on your credit card is required before any bike leaves the rental facility, sized according to the rental bike you choose.

The group. We keep Brazil deliberately small: minimum 5 riders, maximum 10, led by a professional multilingual tour leader with a local guide and support vehicle alongside. Riding two-up? Who can join. You need to be 20 or older with at least one year of experience on a 500cc-or-bigger motorcycle, be physically and mentally fit to ride, hold a valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement, and carry a passport with at least six months' validity at tour start.
