The distances tell you the shape of the tour. After the arrival day in Athens, the riding builds steadily: 309 kilometers through scenic mountain roads to Lake Mornos and Nafpaktos on day two, 286 kilometers past three lakes to Karpenisi on day three, 241 kilometers via the Smokovu and Plastira lakes to Meteora on day four, and 253 kilometers to Lake Pamvotida and Ioannina on day five. The middle of the tour eases off — 213 kilometers to Kastoria on day six and 235 kilometers to St. Athanasios on day seven, the two shortest riding days — before 275 kilometers to Palaios Panteleimonas on day eight and the big 419-kilometer finale from Lake Marathon back into Athens on day nine. Add it up and the eight riding days cover just over 2,200 kilometers of mainland Greece.

Day three deserves a special mention for route connoisseurs: 286 kilometers past Trichonida, Evinos and Kremaston, through some of the most scenic and remote parts of Greece. If your idea of a perfect riding day is tranquil water on one side, lush mountains on the other and hardly anyone else on the road, that is the day this tour was designed around.

You never ride it alone, and you never ride it unsupported. A professional multilingual tour leader rides with the group, a local guide and support vehicle travel alongside the entire way, and fuel and road tolls are covered. • Zorika, Aoou, Prespes and Kastorias (day 6). The tour's biggest lake haul: four in a single 213-kilometer day, ending on the picturesque lakeside of Kastoria.
• Zazari, Petron and Vegoritida (day 7). Three more lakes threaded through peaceful countryside on the way to the village of St. Athanasios.
• Polifitou (day 8). The lake that hands you over to Palaios Panteleimonas and the slopes of Mount Olympus.
• Marathon (day 9). The final lake of the tour, launching the 419-kilometer run home to Athens.

No ferries, no port queues, no timetables — every one of these is reached on a motorcycle, on a road, most of them mountain roads you would struggle to find on your own.

• Meteora (day 4). The headline stop: a UNESCO World Heritage Site where ancient monasteries sit on top of towering rock pillars. Winding roads deliver you straight into the mystical charm of one of Greece's most iconic destinations.
• Ioannina (day 5). A charming lakeside city rich in history and culture — the itinerary deliberately leaves time to discover it rather than just sleep in it.
• Kastoria (day 6). An enchanting town known for its Byzantine heritage and picturesque views over its lake.
• Palaios Panteleimonas (day 8). A restored traditional village nestled on Mount Olympus — cobblestone streets, cozy tavernas and stunning views over the Aegean coastline. Step into the past for a night before the final riding day.

The formal bar to entry is deliberately simple: you must be 20 or older with at least one year of experience on a 500cc-or-bigger motorcycle, hold a valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement, carry a passport with at least six months' validity at tour start, and have a credit card with sufficient funds for the refundable security deposit, which is sized according to the rental bike you choose. No bike leaves the rental facility unless all of that is in order — a rule that protects the whole group, not just us.

Where experience does pay off is in the curves. All bikes are professionally maintained, latest-model machines, and both mandatory third-party liability insurance and motorcycle damage and theft liability reduction insurance are already included.

The group. We keep Greece deliberately small: minimum 5 riders, maximum 10, led by a professional multilingual tour leader with a local guide and support vehicle alongside. Small groups are how a route this intricate stays flexible — and how everyone gets to ride it at their own pace.
