ITINERARY DAY 1
Since this is a 100% off-road tour that involves a lot of sandy trails and dunes and other technical terrain, we offer a 1-day pre-tour extension for those who need to brush up on their skills. Come a day early and get sand training from our expert local guide before heading out where there is no-way-back.

ITINERARY DAY 1
Upon arrival at Walvis Bay International Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel in Walvis Bay. In the evening, we will have a pre-tour briefing at the hotel to discuss the upcoming adventure and answer any questions.

ITINERARY DAY 2
Start the day in Walvis Bay, riding through the Namib Desert and its mesmerizing sand dunes. The journey leads to Goanikontes, where we’ll spend the night, relishing the scenic desert landscapes along the way.

ITINERARY DAY 3
Our adventure continues as we head eastwards, following the Khan River, with chances to spot ostriches and klipspringers. The river ride is truly magical. Exiting the river, we venture into the desert flats, passing old mine shafts en route to the iconic Spitzkoppe Mountain, then on to the Erongo Mountains, where we’ll learn about the fascinating Bushman culture.

ITINERARY DAY 4
Embark on an off-road adventure as we ride through the bush and the Omaruru riverbed, encountering soft sand and muddy swamps. The majestic Brandberg Mountain, adorned with over 45,000 Bushman paintings, will be in sight. Interact with local Himba people selling traditional crafts along the way. We will stay the evening at Brandberg White Lady Lodge.

ITINERARY DAY 5
Continue the journey and savor the less-traveled off-road tracks as we ride from Palmwag Lodge to the Desolation Valley, surrounded by Oryx, springbok, and giraffes. We’ll spend the night at Palmwag Lodge.

ITINERARY DAY 6
Today, we venture to the notorious Skeleton Coast, known for its shipwrecks. Riding on the beach, we head south to Cape Cross Lodge, nestled in a cozy bay with a private beach.

ITINERARY DAY 7
In the morning, visit Cape Cross Seal Reserve, one of the world’s largest Cape fur seal colonies. Ride along the shoreline, passing the Zeila wreck on the way back to Walvis Bay, where we’ll spend the last night of the adventure.

ITINERARY DAY 8
Airport transfer in time for your flight. For those on the 1-day Post-tour extension, you will get picked up in a 4×4 truck and brought south into the iconic tall sand dunes that run along the beaches south of Walvis Bay. Lunch in the dunes before returning to Walvis Bay for the last night included.

ITINERARY DAY 9
Due to your extension, your departure day is moved by a day. Breakfast at the hotel. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can still wander around town before you’re transferred to Walvis Bay International airport to return home.

OBSERVATIONS
The 8-day Namibia Skeleton coast itinerary may change without further notice due to weather, road- or any other condition that the operator or its guides feel will jeopardize the safety of the group or material.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO MOTORCYCLE TOURING IN NAMIBIA
Everything below comes from the tour itself: our 8-day off-road route out of Walvis Bay and the day-by-day itinerary further up this page. One thing needs saying before anything else, because it shapes every paragraph that follows: this is a 100% off-road tour, built specifically for experienced dirt and enduro riders. It is the opposite end of our catalog from road tours like Oman or Greece. If you are weighing up Namibia as your next motorcycle destination, this is the long answer — what "world-class dirt riding" actually means here, what waits along the Skeleton Coast, who the tour is for, and the practical details of the bike, the group and payment.
WHY RIDE NAMIBIA BY MOTORCYCLE?
Namibia is the tour where the pavement ends and everything interesting begins. Our 8-day loop starts and finishes in Walvis Bay, and in between it rides through the Namib Desert and its mesmerizing sand dunes to Goanikontes, follows the Khan River east past old mine shafts to the iconic Spitzkoppe Mountain and the Erongo Mountains, pushes through the bush and the soft sand and muddy swamps of the Omaruru riverbed under the majestic Brandberg Mountain, takes the less-traveled tracks into the Desolation Valley around Palmwag, and then turns for the coast: the notorious Skeleton Coast, where hundreds of shipwrecks lie scattered along the shore, riding on the beach south to Cape Cross and back along the shoreline past the Zeila wreck to Walvis Bay.
What makes that loop different from anywhere else we ride is the density of things you can only reach on a dirt bike. This tour is jam-packed with cultural and nature experiences: a visit to one of the world's largest Cape fur seal colonies — about 1.5 million seals inhabit the Namibian coastline, and they are noisy — a game drive, huge untouched sand dunes, river crossings, and meetings with the original people of Namibia: the Bushmen, the Nama and the Himba tribes. There is even an optional black rhino track for those who want it. You ride among giraffes and elephants, spot ostriches and klipspringers along the Khan River, share the Desolation Valley with oryx and springbok, and eat game meat and fresh seafood straight from the natural pantry.
And then there is the coast itself. The Skeleton Coast is one of those names that carries its own reputation — known for its shipwrecks, wild and empty — and our route does not just look at it from a viewpoint. We ride the beach. Day six runs south along the sand to Cape Cross Lodge, nestled in a cozy bay with a private beach, and day seven starts at the Cape Cross Seal Reserve before following the shoreline back. Very few riding days anywhere in the world end with a wheel track on an ocean beach next to a century of shipwrecks; on this tour, two of them do.
HOW HARD IS THE RIDING? 100% OFF-ROAD, 65% COMFORT, 100% FUN
We publish a terrain profile for every tour so you can match the route to your skills before you book. Namibia rates 100% off-road, 65% comfort and 100% fun — and the first number is the one to take seriously. This is not a road tour with gravel garnish. We will throw everything at you that one can encounter after the pavement ends: sandy trails, dunes, riverbeds, desert flats, bush tracks and beach riding, in ever-changing terrain from the first riding day to the last.
The itinerary reads like a syllabus of off-road surfaces. Day two crosses the Namib Desert and its sand dunes on the way to Goanikontes. Day three is the river day — following the Khan River, a ride the itinerary calls truly magical, then exiting into desert flats toward Spitzkoppe and the Erongo Mountains. Day four is the technical heart of the tour: through the bush and the Omaruru riverbed, encountering soft sand and muddy swamps, with Brandberg Mountain in sight. Day five takes the less-traveled off-road tracks into the Desolation Valley around Palmwag Lodge. Days six and seven are the coastal payoff — beach riding on the Skeleton Coast down to Cape Cross and back along the shoreline to Walvis Bay.
That is why the bike is what it is. The included machine is the KTM 500 EXC-F — a proper dirt bike, not an adventure tourer with luggage. On terrain like this, that choice is the difference between fighting the bike all day and enjoying it.
The 65% comfort score is honest too, and it cuts both ways. Six of the seven nights are in real accommodation — lodges like Brandberg White Lady Lodge, Palmwag Lodge and Cape Cross Lodge, plus hotels in Walvis Bay at either end — and one night is in a desert camp on folding beds. The bush camps are genuine glamping outback camps with all the modern necessities at hand, including toilets and shower facilities. Three meals a day are included, a professional multilingual tour leader rides with the group, and a local guide and support vehicle travel with us the entire way, with fuel and road tolls covered. You will sleep well and eat well; you will also earn it in the sand every day.
IS THE NAMIBIA MOTORCYCLE TOUR FOR YOU? SKILLS & SAND TRAINING
We say this plainly because the terrain does not negotiate: this tour is made for off-roaders, dirt and enduro enthusiasts. Our own FAQ draws the line the same way — road-focused rides like Greece, Thailand and Oman stay around 95% on pavement, while tours like Namibia are built specifically for experienced dirt and enduro riders. If your off-road experience is limited to the occasional gravel road, ride one of our road tours first and come back to Namibia when the sand feels like an invitation rather than a threat. When you register, we ask you to rate your adventure touring and off-road skills for exactly this reason.
For riders who are close but want a margin, we built the answer into the tour: a 1-day pre-tour sand training extension (+$799, with the extra night included). Because this is a 100% off-road tour involving a lot of sandy trails, dunes and other technical terrain, you can come a day early and get sand training from our expert local guide before heading out where there is no way back. That last phrase is from the itinerary, and it is not decoration — deep in the Namibian outback, the support vehicle is your safety net, not a paved shortcut home.
There is also a bookend at the other side of the trip: a 1-day post-tour 4x4 extension (+$799). Instead of flying out on day eight, you get picked up in a 4x4 truck and driven south into the iconic tall sand dunes that run along the beaches south of Walvis Bay, with lunch in the dunes and a final night in town before your transfer to the airport the next day. It is the one way to get even deeper into the big dunes without a motorcycle underneath you.
WHAT ARE THE CULTURE & STOPS ALONG THE NAMIBIA MOTORCYCLE ROUTE?
Namibia rewards riders who get off the bike, and the itinerary builds that in. These are the cultural and wildlife anchors of the tour, day by day:
- Walvis Bay (days 1 and 7). The tour opens with an airport pickup, a hotel night and a pre-tour briefing in the evening to walk through the adventure and answer questions — and closes with a last night in the same town after the shoreline run home.
- Goanikontes and the Namib Desert (day 2). The first riding day crosses the desert and its dunes, with the night spent at Goanikontes among the scenic desert landscapes.
- The Erongo Mountains and Bushman culture (day 3). After the Khan River and Spitzkoppe, we spend the evening in the Erongo Mountains learning about the fascinating culture of the Bushmen, the original people of Namibia.
- Brandberg Mountain and the Himba (day 4). Brandberg is adorned with over 45,000 Bushman paintings, and along the way we interact with local Himba people selling traditional crafts. The night is at Brandberg White Lady Lodge.
- Palmwag and the Desolation Valley (day 5). Safari-lodge country — the day's off-road tracks are surrounded by oryx, springbok and giraffes, with the night at Palmwag Lodge.
- The Skeleton Coast (day 6). Hundreds of shipwrecks scattered along the shore give this coastline its name. We ride the beach south to Cape Cross Lodge and its private beach on a cozy bay.
- Cape Cross Seal Reserve and the Zeila wreck (day 7). A morning visit to one of the world's largest Cape fur seal colonies, then the shoreline ride past the wreck of the Zeila back to Walvis Bay.
Group activities and entry fees for these stops are included in the tour price, so there is no ticket-counter arithmetic along the way — when the group walks into the seal reserve, everyone walks in. The optional black rhino track is the one highlight listed as optional, for riders who want to add it.
WHICH BIKES, WHAT GROUP SIZE & HOW DO YOU BOOK IN NAMIBIA?
The motorcycle. The bike for this tour is the KTM 500 EXC-F, included in the tour price as the base model rental. Unlike our road tours, there is no menu of big-GS upgrades here — the terrain chose the bike, and it is the right one. Every bike is professionally maintained, and both the mandatory third-party liability insurance and a motorcycle damage and theft liability reduction insurance are already included. A refundable security deposit on your credit card is required to take the bike out, sized according to the rental bike.
The group. We keep Namibia deliberately small: minimum 6 riders, maximum 10, led by a certified multilingual tour leader with a local guide and support vehicle alongside the whole way. Accommodation is in shared rooms by default — six nights of lodges and hotels plus one desert-camp night on folding beds — with a single-room upgrade available for +$649.
What the price covers. The tour starts at $4,499 per rider on the KTM 500 EXC-F in a shared room. That includes all seven nights, three meals a day, the motorcycle rental, fuel and road tolls, both insurances, group activities and entry fees, a pre-tour preparation guide and briefing, airport transfers from and to Walvis Bay International Airport (WVB) on official arrival and departure days, up to 25% discount on riding gear from our partners Klim, Giant Loop and Mosko Moto, a MotoDreamer apparel gift, and all taxes. Not included: airfare, the optional upgrades and extensions, drinks and snacks, dinner on the last night, personal paperwork, permits and visas, tips to staff, and travel and cancellation insurance — for that we point riders to Global Rescue.
Booking and payment. Hit Book Now, pick your date and pay the deposit; we accept bank transfer, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal and Bitcoin, and you can split the balance into monthly payments with no interest. Booking as a group is rewarded: when 5 riders pay, rider number 6 travels free. Every booking is backed by our price match and departure guarantees. The next scheduled Namibia departure runs April 16 to 25, 2027, and private or customized dates are available for groups of 6 or more riders.
Who can join. You need to be 20 or older with at least one year of experience on a 500cc-or-bigger motorcycle, hold a valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement, carry a passport with at least six months' validity at tour start, and be physically and mentally fit to ride. On this tour, add the honest self-assessment of your off-road skills — and if sand is your weak point, book the training day and arrive ready.
Seventeen-plus years of operating tours and more than 4,000 riders have shaped how we run Namibia. If you are the rider this tour was made for, you already know it: everything after the pavement ends is exactly what you came for.
